Clay
County Auditor The County Auditor is an elected position and is responsible directly to the people of Clay County and subject to Minnesota Statutes Chapter 384. The staff consists of the Auditor and thirteen full-time staff members who are dedicated to serving the citizens of Clay County by offering the best possible service in all aspects of the duties of this office. The Auditor is responsible for tax administration for all taxing districts in Clay County. These duties include the maintenance of names, addresses, and legal descriptions for tax rolls, truth-in-taxation notice, calculation of property taxes, tax increment financing, tax forfeiture, special assessments and the settlement of tax dollars. The Auditor also administers the issuance of auctioneer, beer and liquor licenses, as well as the County's centralized accounting system. This system controls all fiscal aspects of the County including paying bills, payroll, collecting revenues, financial statement preparation and budget reporting. The Auditor is the Deputy Registrar for the County and administers the Motor Vehicle Department. The Auditor also administers the county functions of Federal, State, and Local elections. This process involves registration of voters; candidate filings; ballot layout; electronic tabulation of ballots; absentee voting; Election Day signature rosters; election night results; abstracts; maintaining voter history and administering county recounts. Lori J. Johnson Lori J. Johnson has been with the Auditor's Office since 1987. She graduated from Concordia College with a Bachelor of Arts in 1983 after which she passed the CPA Exam. Lori worked for the State Auditor's Office until 1987 when she began as Clay County's Financial Manager and held that position until 1997 when she became the Clay County Auditor. Lori currently serves as Chairman of the IFS Rewrite Steering Committee and Chairman of the Finance/General Government User Group. |
