Recycling Opportunities for Businesses

Many businesses are recycling bottles, cans, paper (office and mixed, including junk mail), corrugated cardboard, newspapers, magazines and other recyclable materials.

• Your business may need to design a system to collect the recyclable materials.
  
  

• Businesses without regular recycling service can self-haul recyclables to their nearest free recycling center/drop-off site (for Moorhead businesses--MinnKota Recycling’s drop-off site is at 1321 1st Ave. N.). 
  
  

• Or, contact your commercial waste hauler or a local recycling company for recycling services available.

Environmental Protection Agency, United States Government.

Minnesota Waste Wise at 651.292.4861 for assistance in finding cost effective ways to reduce waste.  Minnesota Waste Wise is a voluntary program for businesses, non-profits, and government organizations, sponsored by the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce in partnership with Minnesota Office of Environmental Assistance, to increase waste prevention and recycling. 

Minnesota Technical Assistance Program (MNTAP) at 612.627.4646 for help in improving waste management practices, preventing pollution, developing waste reduction and recycling programs and obtaining other technical assistance.  Applications are available for Summer 2002 interns to help you address a waste or inefficiency in your business.

Minnesota Office of Environmental Assistance (MOEA) at 651.215.0232 for information on programs, resources, and grants available.

Minnesota Retired Engineers Technical Assistance Program (RETAP) at 612.278.7123, which is operated by the Waste Reduction and Technology Transfer Foundation.  RETAP provides free, confidential, and non-regulatory on-site waste reduction assessments, conducted by a team of retired professionals, who review facilities for opportunities in source reduction, reuse, recycling, and energy efficiency.

The Materials Exchange Program, which lists one company’s unwanted material and makes it available for use by another company.

The Solid Waste Management Coordinating Board’s Environmentally Preferable Purchasing Guide, which provides information on purchasing products that are hazardous and contain recycled content, while bearing in mind end-of-life management, with the intent of preventing waste and conserving energy and water.
