How to Prepare Your
Waste Properly for
Disposal & Transport
Household Hazardous
Waste (HHW)
Solid Waste
Management
Protect Yourself
-
Wear protective
clothing, gloves and goggles.
-
Do not smoke.
-
Do not wear contact
lenses if handling solvents.
-
Do not expose yourself
to toxic chemicals if pregnant.
-
Work in a
well-ventilated area.
-
Avoid breathing fumes.
-
Keep children and pets
away.
Bring Materials in
Original Containers
-
If the original
container is not available, clearly mark on your container its
present contents.
-
Do not mix different
waste products in the same container.
Pack Carefully
-
Place containers in a
cardboard box lined with plastic. Do not place the product
within a plastic bag only.
-
Pack them in an upright
position.
-
Tighten all lids before
transporting.
-
If a container is
leaking, pack in a larger, leak-free container. Soak up any
liquid with kitty litter.
Transport
-
Place boxes in the car
trunk or pickup box.
-
If you must transport
containers inside the vehicle, keep the vehicle
ventilated. Place combustibles out of direct sunlight
and away from heat sources.
