On-site Septic SystemsClay County Environmental Health inspects rural and urban septic systems, along with issuing permits and certifications. All new septic systems require a design, a permit, and an inspection prior to backfilling. All existing septic systems must be certified by the County prior to a Transfer of Ownership. It is the responsibility of the seller to arrange for an inspection. If it is determined that updates are needed, the costs associated with those updates are negotiated between the two parties. The Septic Permit Application/Certification form is available below in the Portable Document Format (PDF). To view and print the PDF version, you need the free Adobe® Acrobat® Reader software.
Upon completion of the form and any necessary attachments, please sign and date the form and return it, along with payment, in person or by mail to Clay County Environmental Health. For
further information on septic systems, check out the following web
sites: View the related County Code. After selecting Clay County Code On-line from the County Code page, you will find the Sewage Treatment Ordinance under Title 6: Sewage Treatment. (Click the "+" sign on the "Title" folder to show the "Chapter" folders, click the "+" sign on the "Chapter" folders to see the documents in the folder, click on the "Document" to display that document, etc.) Adobe and Acrobat Reader are trademarks of Adobe Systems Incorporated.
