Jury Duty Information
Jury Services
Janice Cossette-Court
Administrator/Jury Commissioner
If you have been determined to be a qualified juror and have
submitted your questionnaire to the Court, the following is general
information of what to expect during jury service.
Jury duty will last 2 months or 10 days of attendance, whichever
comes first unless you have been selected to serve on a trial that
lasts more than 10 days. During this two-month term, a juror’s name is
kept in the computer as part of a “jury pool” which consists of
numerous jurors.
Jurors will not be reporting for service everyday or every week
during your two-month term.
Jurors are considered “on-call” and would report ONLY when a
Notice to Appear letter is sent with a specific reporting date and
time. Letters are mailed about a week in advance to a group of
jurors who are randomly selected from the “jury pool”. This
notice/letter will indicate a phone number for jurors to call the
evening before a trial to learn if the jury group is still needed to
report the next day. (That phone number is 299-7306 – do not
leave a message).
Jurors will be compensated for each day of service at the rate of
$10.00 plus mileage. Some jurors may be eligible for Day Care
reimbursement.
Conflict dates for doctor appointments and vacations will be honored
if the request is reasonable. All requests must be in writing; they
will not be taken over the phone. Please submit a written list of
dates by mail as soon as possible or at least two weeks in advance of
the appointment/vacation. Failure to provide this information does not
excuse you from jury service. Once you are summoned to a particular
trial date you must appear.
Each juror will receive jury orientation the first time they
actually report for service. Further information will be provided and
questions answered at that time.
Thank you for your cooperation. |
