Flooded Wells:
Clay County does offer free water testing services for those
residents whose wells are impacted by the floodwaters until April 21,
2009, after which time regular fees will be charged. We recommend
testing for total coliform bacteria and e-coli bacteria. Test kits can be
picked up at the Family Service Center, 715 11 St N, Moorhead, Room 105.
The telephone number is 218.299.7777. Water samples can be dropped off at
the same location Monday thru Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
-
Flooded Septic
Systems:
Do
not use the sewage system until water in the disposal field is lower
than the water level around the house.
-
Read
"What to Do With Your Septic
System After a Flood" (pdf) from the
Minnesota Pollution Control Agency.
-
Make
sure to contact a licensed maintainer to pump out and properly dispose
of the solids and liquids from septic tank and lift station before using
the system again.
-
Structure Damage - Any structure that
sustained damage during the flood and is located within the 100 year
floodplain must be inspected by the
Clay County Planning Office
before any repairs are made. Any Clay
County resident with residence or other structure damage as a result of
flooding should contact the Clay
County Planning Office immediately. Be ready to provide details of
the damage and the location of the structure so the County can make a site
visit to do a damage assessment of the property if necessary. Residents
located within the floodplain who sustained damage to a structure are
reminded that they must get a permit from the
Clay County Planning Office
before any reconstruction work is started. Planning Office
telephone: 218-299-5002.
