County. They include Barnesville, Comstock, Dilworth,
Felton, Georgetown, Glyndon, Hawley, Hitterdal, Moorhead, Sabin, and
Ulen. Clay County's population has doubled from 25,227 people in 1940 to 51,229 in 2000, which is a 102.2% increase. The population increased 3.9% between 1980 and 2000 and is projected to increase 4.4% from 2000 to 2025. The City of Moorhead is the most populated city, with 32,177 residents. The median age in the county is 32.3 with 12,822 ages 17 and under and 6,597 over 65. Clay County maintains a 94.6% rate of owner occupied housing, compared to 91.7% statewide. The poverty rate for Clay County, in 2000, was 12.4%, compared to the state average of 8.9%. The Bureau of Economic Analysis listed the 1990 per capita personal income for Clay County at $14,051. This increased to $18,407 in 1996, which was a 31.0% increase over that time. The per capita personal income for the state of Minnesota increased 32.6% statewide and there was a 27.4% increase nationally. The average weekly employment wage for Clay County in 1997 was $387.88 and the monthly employment increased by 3.5%.
